General Information

Italy, a Country with the Mediterranean tastes able to pass on to it's own visitors unique feelings and emotions of unbelievable beauty.
The Italian Peninsula is one of the greatest penisulas of Europe, spanning 1,300 km from the Alps in the north to the central Mediterranean Sea in the south.
Italy also has two independent countries within its borders: Vatican City is the heart of the Roman Catholic Church, and is the world's smallest country. San Marino, on the north east coast of Italy, is an independent republic.

Italy includes two large islands: Sicily and Sardinia. Sicily is the largest island in the Mediterranean with its active volcanoes while Sardinia is basically mountains rising out of the ocean. The peninsula is bordered by the Ligurian Sea and the Tyrrhenian Sea on the west, the Ionian Sea on the south, and the Adriatic Sea on the east. 80% of Italy is covered by mountains and hills, while over 8 000 km of coastline - at times low and sandy and at times high and rocky - mark its boundaries, so that the country offers a unique variety of landscapes: a perfect balance of seas, mountains, hills and flatlands, this peninsula has mainly a Mediterranean climate. Italy is one of the most interesting and friendly countries for tourists and travellers. The interior part of the Apennine Peninsula consists of the Apennine Mountains, from which it takes its name, stretching from north to south, dividing the east and west coasts. The Dolomite mountains which extend across northern Italy are part of the Alps mountain range. The Po Valley, just south of the Dolomite mountains, is the basin of the Po River, the longest of the Italian rivers.
